Buggy Balance Measurement GIVEAWAY!

As you all know, The Moffatt Girls LOVE Learning Resources because their products are both FUN and highly educational! We were super excited to be able to review the Buggy Balance Measurement Activity Set and give a set away to one of our readers! This simple and fun resource turned into a FABULOUS math lesson for my Kindergartener and 2nd Grader!

The Buggy Balance Measurement Activity Set includes:
*24 caterpillars in two weights (small and large)
*36 leaves in two weights (small and large)
*Balance measure
*Activity guide

The girls went right to work comparing, measuring and talking about math!  I especially liked the fact that this activity fit the learning needs of both girls!

We began by measuring like items with like items.
Then the girls started seeing which items equaled other items.
Sophia (on the left) was completely intrigued by the whole process.

For example, Sophia would place 2 small caterpillars and 2 small leaves on one side of the balance and Audrey would figure out what other items would equal Sophia's group of items.

We extended the activity by using a different objects to balance. We used some counting bears, base ten rods and other math manipulatives. There are SO many different ways you can use this resource!  The possibilities for measuring different items is endless!

How many counting bears would Audrey need to equal Sophia's 6 large caterpillars?
The girls went to work!

Can I even begin to tell you what an AWESOME learning experience this turned out to be?  Audrey began by taking off all of the large caterpillars.  She place one large caterpillar on the balance and discovered that it took "about" 3 counting bears to equal Sophia's 1 large caterpillar.  She did the math to find out how many groups of counting bears needed to equal 6 large caterpillars.
Let's just say we started our multiplication lessons a bit early!

We decided that we needed some sort of recording sheet for figuring out the weight of each item.
For example she would write:
1 large caterpillar = 3 counting bears
2 small caterpillars = 3 counting bears
This entire lesson was SO FUN and super effective!
I was able to meet the learning needs of both my 4 year old AND my 7 year old!

"Okay Audrey! How many counting bears do you need to equal 3 large leaves and 3 small leaves?"
The "game" continued and the girls had a blast learning!

I sat and enjoyed watching them discover on there own!  Once in awhile I would interject something or ask a questions, but MOST of this activity was self directed learning and discovering!

Now for YOUR chance to WIN a set!
