Ready2Read Level 1 Unit 4

We are making so much progress with our Ready2Read units!  By unit 4, the light bulb really went on for this little Moffatt Girl!  She is reading up a storm and the growth from one unit to the next is absolutely AMAZING!  It really helps that the units are fun and engaging for her!  Her fluency and confidence is growing by leaps and bounds!

Unit 4 Sight Word: we, play, come, for, help

Color by Sight Word
Our coloring pages are a huge hit because they let kids color and practice the sight words for the week!

I also love that the Color by Sight Word pages help reinforce color word practice.
By Unit 4, she is able to read the color words independently and with ease.

Coloring also helps build those fine motor skills needed for writing!

So proud!

Word Family Word Sort (-ug and -op)
We had a TON of fun with these cute little word sort kids!

The goal was to read the words on the word family balloons and sort them to the correct kid.

This was PERFECT for sounding it out… letter by letter!

Here is the -ug family balloon boy….

Here is the -op family balloon girl...

She was SO proud of herself for reading and sorting all of her words! I LOVE that our Ready2Read program is not only building her fluency, but it is also building her CONFIDENCE!

Here is the end result of our Word Family Word Sort!  How cute is this!?!
She really enjoyed this activity and wanted to play a few more times!  What a FUN way to help build fluency and confidence!

Color by Word Family
This cute little coloring page incorporated the -ug and -op word families.

Coloring is SERIOUS business for this little Moffatt Girl!

Learning just doesn't get better than this!
*Coloring by the code
*Reading word family words
*Having FUN!

I love keeping it simple, fun and highly effective!

She has been trying very hard to stay in the lines when she colors.
She is VERY proud of her Color by Word Family coloring page!

Break the Sight Word Code
The Break the Sight Word Code page is always super fun and engaging for her!  She loves using the clues to find and discover her sight words for the week!

She accidentally put the wrong letter on her page, but SHE caught it and SHE corrected it!

Looking back and finding the correct letter!

Ohhh…what word is this?

She broke the sight word code for this weeks words: we, play, come, for and help!

CVC Puzzles
These little puzzles are a BIG hit and really effective for sounding out CVC words.  I like to put magnets on the back of the pieces so that we can use them on the whiteboard. I begin by mixing up all the pieces.  This little Moffatt Girl likes to look for the pictures first and then she sounds out the word.

Building the picture, sounding it out and blending the word has helped TREMENDOUSLY!  The growth since we started with unit 1 is AMAZING!

Yep!  I think she is pretty proud of her new reading skills!

Singing Sight Words
Singing our sight words to the tune of B-I-N-G-O is always a FUN activity and kids LOVE to sing!  I like to use magnets for this activity as well.  I begin by placing the words on the left and the little Moffatt Girl picks a sight word to sing. Be sure to follow us on INSTAGRAM to see her sining the sight word song!

After placing all of the words in the right spots, we sing our sight words to the tune of B-I-N-G-O!
There was a sight word for the day,
And play was our sight word
P-L-A-Y (repeat 3 times)
And play was our sight word!

Super FUN and super effective!  In fact, I have found her singing her sight words throughout the day :)

I like to change it up a bit with dot markers for our Find and Color page...

This is a fun activity that is a lot like a scavenger hunt for words...

First grab a card, sound out and blend the word and find the word on the page...

Dot mark the word or color it...

When she came across these two cards, she told me that I made a mistake :)  She said that there are 2 "bug" cards. This b and d reversal is VERY common, so I had her point to the beginning sound in both words.  She corrected herself and said, "OH!  Bug and DUG!"

I like to use the cards from this activity to add to our pocket chart.  This allows us to read and re-read the word family words.  Ready2Read heavily relies on repetition with a variety of learning modalities.

The word family word slides are very popular!  This time we unleveled the activity by writing the words on a mini-whitebaord while working with the -ug word family.  This helps with seeing, hearing and spelling the word families.

She wants to write SO BADLY…that even wants to correct all her own mistakes.

Here is our -op word family slide...

She is working on her sight word caterpillar pieces that will help GROW our sight word caterpillar.

This was an activity that she was super eager to do so that she could show me her handwriting!

The Read it, Trace it, Paste it pages are almost like a craft.  I like to use crayons, dot makers, colored pencils and watercolors to add some fun to this activity.

As you can see, the girl really likes pink.  She colored each word a different shade of pink…
Whatever works :)

Then she cut and pasted the pages to make the sentence...

We are adding this -op flower to our Ready2Read wall….

This -ug cloud will be added as well...

We LOVE our Ready2Read wall because it is a FUN way to review our word families and practice some fluency!

I wasn't able to capture all of the activities in this Ready2Read unit, but hopefully enough to give you an idea of all of the hands-on and engaging activities in each unit!
You can grab the BUNDLE for Ready2Read Level 1, which includes 8 units {HERE}.

Additional Resources that we are using with Ready2Read Level 1:
*Emergent Readers (The Bundle)- These are perfect for extra practice with pre-primer sight words and simple short vowel word families! I am using these to build fluency.
*I Can Read Simple Sentences (Set 1)- This really helps provide more practice for sight words and word families.
*CVC Word Family Watches- The wearable watches are a FUN way to practice reading the words throughout the day.

I can't tell you how much I miss this. Teaching a child to read is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Your program made it so much fun, just wish I could have done it with the Sweet Pea.

I have purchased products from your TpT store before. Today, however, is the first time I saw your blog. Boy--- what have I been missing!!!! I love it. I think I have to go to your store again and start the buying process.
