Who Am I?

I was recently talking to a few blogging friends about being personable on our blogs.  Some people are personable and some...well...not so much.  I thought hard about that and I realized that most people know more about my girls (Audrey and Sophia) than they know about me:)  I am making efforts to share my heart more and let my readers know a little more about who I am...personally.  When you know the person behind the blog, it makes it more interesting to read the blog.

Who Am I ?
Here is a recent photo of me and Fran.  This was our meet-up at Cheesecake Factory.

Am I a teacher or a homeschooler?
Hmmm....good question.  I am a certificated teacher and just renewed my teaching credential a few months ago.  I am planning to pursue my Master's Degree in the near future because I LOVE teaching!  My heart and passion is to teach...for sure!  I used to have a classroom of 36 4th graders, but now I have a classroom of 2 sweethearts...my little girls!

A few years ago I was told that I would never have kids, but after being married for nearly 10 years, I gave birth to Audrey!   At that time I decided to job-share and I worked part-time with an awesome teacher!  Together we taught 4th grade and I LOVED it!!  However, I always rushed home the minute my contract allowed me to so that I could be home with my Audrey.

The next year I had my little Sophia!  My heart hurt at the thought of leaving both of my girls, even if it was only part-time.  So I decided to stay at home with my girls.  I LOVED my job and it was certainly going to be a financial challenge if I quit.  However, I knew that I would never get these years back again and I wanted to cherish every minute of their little lives!!  I LOVE being a stay-at-home mom and I LOVE the fact that I am their teacher:)

Who do I create my Curriculum for?
When I fist began creating my Ready2Read program, I created it with Audrey in mind.  I wanted her to enjoy learning and have fun with this exciting new adventure...so I created the Ready2Read Curriculum.  As a teacher, I wanted to make sure that my program was aligned to the standards so there were no gaps in her learning.  Honestly, I never imagined that this curriculum would be used in classrooms!  That totally humbles me!

When do I blog and how do I find the time?
I am only answering this question because people have asked.  I don't blog during the day because those little Moffatt Girls keep me WAY too busy!!  That wouldn't be fair to them.

Here is the truth:  I go to sleep when the girls go to sleep, because I am exhausted!!   I usually wake up 1-2 hours later and then I blog or work on my curriculum.  I have been know to go to bed at 2:30am and then get back up at 6:30am.  I try NOT to do that as much...but it happens.  The fact of the matter is...I don't get enough sleep, but then again, most moms don't get enough sleep:)

What do I do in my spare time?
Spare time??  Well, my husband and I love to do things with the girls.  One of our favorite places to go to is Disneyland!  The place is magical and we love being there with the girls!  I HATE the Teacup ride, but I go on it because the girls love it.

What about the Moffatt Man?
He probably prefers to stay off of the blog, but here he is:)  He loves our girls, he loves me and we LOVE him!!

Some randomness:
-I like eating Trader Joe's Wasabi Almonds...totally random!
-I drink 2 cups of coffee with hazelnut creamer.
-I am a Mac girl...totally in love with Apple products...to a fault!
-I lived in Russia for 2 years and Hungary for a year.
-I struggle to keep my paperwork organized...but I keep trying!
-I only own one pair of shorts because my legs are so white!
-It makes me super happy to read comments on my blog...unless the are bad...then I delete them. J/K
Well...that's all for now.

Dear Annie,
That is a precious picture of us. I love it. I love spending time with you and right now staying home with the girls makes you the best "teacher mommy in the world." I really enjoyed your story and journey with your family. Here's the thing... the girls will grow up and you can go back when you are ready but now is when they need you. I'm just sayin'...
I love being with you Annie. Let me know if the girls need any stuff from me.
Love, Fran

Oh Annie, this was such a wonderful post! But I have to say that I have always found your so personable!! I just love that you are home with your girls! We made sure that I was at home with all 3 of our girls until they started 'big school', but I would dearly love to continue with homeschooling!! Loved the pics and all of the insights into your teaching and life. Gosh I can certainly relate on the lack of sleep, lol!! Thanks so much for sharing... you always inspire me! Happy end of the week to you and your gorgeous family ~ xx

I loved this post! I thought I was crazy when I thought your hubby looked like George Clooney, but I guess I wasn't the only one LOL! You family is absolutely beautiful! I also stay far away from shorts for fear of blinding people, and I live in San Diego!!! I love your toddler tasks section, and will be doing some serious work over the summer to get those things ready for my nephew, who will be 2 soon.
I am also a Mac girl, and was wondering if you ever use keynote? I have seen a lot of people talking about power point, and was wondering if keynote was a good replacement. Any thoughts?

I have always thought your blog reflected exactly who you are; a passionate educator who happens to work from home. :) I really look forward to the day that we can meet. Perhaps, a play date at Disneyland. We go there often, too.

Awww your family is adorable (and I loved how you called the hubs the Moffatt Man...totally thought of the Muffin Man...I'm sure he'd love that!) I think it's great that you can stay home AND teach your daughters. I have a 2 year old daughter and it tears at me to leave her every day, but I know she's with an awesome sitter and gets time to play with other kids (since she's the only one so far...) I've been home this week on Spring Break and it's been such a wonderful time with her. Thanks for sharing :) I think you're awesome :)

Fran...I'm totally taking you up on that offer!

Tina, you always make me smile:)

Cori, I use Word and Powerpoint, but I don't use keynote yet. My husband says it has limitations, but I plan on getting it for my iPad.

Mrs. Parker...YES...Let's do it for sure!!!

I think my husband it totally tired of hearing that he looks like George Clooney:) I like it:D He rolls his eyes:)

Thanks, Teri!

Jenn...exercise??? I thought chasing a 4 year old and 2 year old was exercise:) LOL Actually, I mean to exercise more and I plan on starting soon with walking/jogging the girls in the jogging stroller. I just need to get around to it:)

Annie, I have just started following your blog and I want to thank you for all that you do. My daughter is turning 3 in less than 2 months and so I have been gathering lots of preschool information and activities and have done some with her but not on a regular basis. She is very excited about doing her preschool work and I look forward to reading more of your blog. Thank you for the glimpse into your life to let us all get to know you. Have a great weekend!

I really enjoyed reading your post today. I always wondered myself how much of myself I should put on my blog. I think you do an amazing job on your blog...although we never met, I feel that you are very inspirational, personable, and friendly. (Then again, I think I feel a certain kinship for you because I thought I was the only one in So.Cal with see-through white legs!)

You like to create interesting (and organized) activities and lessons and you like them to look fun...
You have a huge heart, you LOVE your family, and you are adored by many...

You see, Annie, it wasn't about us getting to know the details (although those are fun too!). We met you through the sound of your words. We met your heart!

I've always loved reading your posts because you are personable and real and WONDERFUL.

I started homeschooling earlier this year. I never thought I would be able to. I really want to thank you for your learning to read curriculum. We're starting unit 6 next week. You've made it easy for me, fun for my boys, and most importantly, they are reading! It's been the best homeschooling experience! Thanks so much, Diana. A Little Bit of Spain in Iowa.

Diana,
Wow! Thank you for your sweet comment! You really made my day:) Watching your kids learn to read it the BEST!!

Miss Emily said...

Sweet post. Random question, are you planning on sending your chickadees to a school when they are 5¿ or will you be homeschooling them through?

Annie Moffatt said...

Hi Miss Emily,
Good question! I LOVE being at home with my girls and I figure that a classroom of 2 is much better than a classroom of 30+...at least for them. Therefore, I am homeschooling for sure! How long? I don't know yet. Thanks for asking:)

Annie, I have been away from blogging for a few months and I have missed it. I am so glad I clicked on this post and got to know you a bit more. You are an inspiration to me and many others. We too waited 10 years for our blessings to come, but they did in doubles. Our twin girls are 4 now. I took a year and a half off from teaching to stay home and I am so grateful I did. I had to go back but they have been at home with daddy and I am so thankful (although he taught them a few things I would not have.:) We are going to have so much fun this summer using your program to get ready for pre-k! Thank you so much for re-energizing me!
