I can't believe that we are officially half way through Level 2 of the Ready2Read program! I am extremely happy with the progress Audrey is making, but more importantly how much we are enjoying the journey!
*If you are new to the Ready2Read Program, you can read the information page for Level 1 {HERE}.

Note: Level 1 prepares a child for Level 2.
Level 2 Theme: Word Family Fair
Unit 5 Sight Words: this, say, please, there, have, good
(This week we have 6 sight words instead of 5)
Unit 5 Word Families: -ide and -ent
**This is our 5th week of working with the long vowels silent e combo with the -ide word family. Here are the links to the freebies that we have been using for the las few posts to reinforce this concept:
2) Silent E
Remember: The concept of the silent e should be specifically taught when teaching the -ide word family.

Color by Number Sight Word
We started by coloring our color by number sight words. This time we had 6 sight words to color instead of 5. Now we have 26 new sight words up! WOW!
Sight Word Song
We continue to sing our sight words to the tune of B-I-N-G-O! This tune is so catchy that we sing it all the time...in the car, at the park, cleaning the house:) Such a fun way to learn!
Sight Word Circles
Six more sight words have been traced, colored, laminated and added to our balloon wall!
Sight Word Decorating (Cherrio Mats)
Since we worked on our sight words during the Christmas season, we decorated them with these adorable Christmas cake decorations. We also used glitter! The only issue that I have with this part of the program is how to stop the girls from eating the cake decorations:)
Color by Word Family
Audrey always likes to color our Color by Word Family pages...
Here is our Color by Sight Word page...
Read it, Trace it, Paste it
These pages can be colored in with crayons, water colors, markers, colored pencils or nothing at all. The most important thing to me is that it is FUN! There are a total of 3 pages for this activity.
Break the Sight Word Code
Here is our Break the Sight Word Code Sentence Sheets. We also have the Beak the Sight Word Code available on our Teachers Notebook Shop for pre-primer words.
Mini Mini Book
Here is our mini mini book, which will include 6 new sight words this week...
Word Family Word Sort
I LOVE our word sort this week and so did Audrey! You have two popcorn containers and you place the correct piece of popcorn in each popcorn bag! How cute is that? You can extend this activity by printing two copies of the popcorn and play the game memory. You just want to make sure that they are reading each piece of popcorn correctly.
Play Dough Mats
Here is our -ide and -ent word family Play Dough Mats and recording sheets...
Word Slides
I couldn't help myself when I found these adorable Strawberry Cheesecake Letters for our word slides!! This just makes the word slides that much more fun! We continue to write the words from our word families on the mini whiteboard to help reinforce spelling rules, printing skills, and penmanship.
Roll-A-Word Family
This game can be played a couple of different times when going through the lesson. The most important thing is that the child is actually reading the word and not just coloring the word. Audrey likes this game a lot!!
We actually had 2 Sight Word Graphing Sheets this week because we had 6 new sight words. This is just an extra opportunity to reinforce sight words and Audrey always likes doing these:)
Tic-Tac-Toe Word Families (-ide and ent)
I'm not sure why I never win at this game;) Audrey is just so good!
I really like playing this game with her because she loves talking about it as we play. She might say, "I'm going to choose the word slide and block you!" She is reading words, writing and having FUN!
Blends and Digraphs
Our Blends and Digraph page was a little short this week because our specific word families did not have enough blends to cover the sheet. However, we just added a single letter, which worked well too.
Sentence Strips
This is a great way for us to review sight words from Level 1 and the new word families from this unit. There are so many different ways you can play with this printable. I printed two copies and cut up all the words from one.
Next, we played a game to see who could find the word first. Audrey was green and I was orange. Honestly...she was much quicker than I was!

Lemonade Blends/Digraphs
We added 5 more words to our Lemonade Word Wall...
The newest additions to our Word Family Fair Wall are these Word Family Prize Ribbons!
Here is an overview of our wall for Unit 5! I just LOVE how everything is coming together:)
