Shoe Town Stories

I recently picked up a copy of an easy reader called, Shoe Town for Audrey to practice her reading skills.  This adorable easy reader has a fun activity in the back of the book and we decided to give it a try.

This is an activity that can be adapted to any grade level and I just love it!  In fact, if I were teaching again I think I would use for an open house cute.

Start by tracing your shoes onto a piece of paper and then cutting them out.  Audrey decided to create a picture storybook of our family:)  She also wrote about our family on the last page.  I was so impressed with the final outcome that I decided to laminate the book so we could it have it as a keepsake.

On the left: our family holding hands.
On the right: our dogs and our birds.

Audrey wrote, "I love my shoe town because I love my family.  By Audrey"

Now this makes a mommy's heart melt!!

Arrgh...Pirates Like to Count!!

Arrgh...You either learn to skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's or ya walk the plank!!

I finally finished our Pirates Like to Count by 2's, 5's, and 10's!  After attending two Pirate themed birthday parties this summer and seeing all the teacher pirate themed classrooms, I decided to create some pirate printables!

I couldn't be happier with these printables because my daughter LOVES them and has been singing our pirate counting songs all week!!

There are 22 pirate pages that help with skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's!  These would be great for Kindergarten and 1st grade math centers.

Only a few of the printables are shown.

Tic Tac Toe Word Families!!

I am excited to release my newest product on Teacher's Notebook, Tic Tac Word Families!!  This idea originated from another mommy and I love it...thanks Debbie:)!!

I introduced this simple CVC Word Family game to Audrey and she begged me to play again and again!   Well...okay...I guess you can learn your word families;)  We had a blast as playing and I LOVED watching her become more confident with each new game!

This would be an excellent addition to any Literacy Center or fun practice for homeschooling families!

Ready2Read Level 1: Unit 7

Wow!  I can't believe that we are already on Unit 7 of our Ready2Read Program!!  I know that I say this each week, but I am continually amazed at how much Audrey's reading has developed since we started the Ready2Read Program!
If you are new to the Read2Read Program, check out the Information Page {HERE}.

*Note: As of 11/7/2012, Level 1 has been completely reworked and revised.  Here is the NEW and IMPROVED version!  This blogpost will be a bit different from the upgraded printables, but contains the same content.

Sight Words: me, make, red, funny, said
Word Families: -ill, -all
Theme: Word Family Garden
*Note: you will need to specifically teach the -all word family as a chunk, not phonetically.

Unit 7 started off with our color-by-number sight words

We continue to sing our sight words to the tune of BINGO.  Sophia really enjoys this activity too:)  Although she is not even 2 yet, she grabs the sight words and a cookie sheet and says, "Mommy, sight words...sight words."  She really loves singing:)

Our sight word caterpillar is 35 circles long!!  We like to mix it up and read all the reds, all the blues and so forth.

Audrey likes to add the circles each week and then count them...

Decorating sight words is always a huge hit for us!
Squeezing those glue bottles are great for preparing for fine motor skills such as writing...

Read it, Trace it, Paste it...

Crack the Sight Word page.  If your child/students enjoy this activity, consider purchasing my Break the Sight Word Sentences!  There are 30 pages for only $2.50!!

Circle the correct CVC word...

Cut out, staple and read the -ill and -all word family minibooks...

Once again, the cute word sorts are always a success!  This week we worked with dinosaurs!!

We read our word slides and then wrote the words on our mini whiteboard.  Audrey was so proud of her handwriting that she said, "Mommy, take a picture."

CVC word/picture match...
This week we were short on a few words because some word families have less concrete words to work sorry.

This week we added our sun and a cute butterfly to our word family garden...
