Ready2Read Level 1: Unit 5

Our Ready2Read programs are progressing nicely and I am pleased to see how much Audrey has grown!  Her reading foundation is getting stronger and stronger as we move forward with each unit.

Sight Words: find, one, yellow, little, it

Word Families: -ap, -ad

Theme: Word Family Garden

Once again we started the unit with our color-by-number flashcards...

We sang our sight word song to the tune of B-I-N-G-O

We now have 25 sight words to make sentences out of...WOW!!

Our sight word caterpillar is really growing!!  25 sight words long!!

We had tons of fun decorating the sight words this week!  We used glitter, jewels, and stickers:)  There are so many creative ways to make learning fun and interactive.  

Audrey colored her Word Family Coloring Page...a soccer ball!

The Color-by-Sight Word coloring page was also a huge hit!  This has really proven to be a great resource for reinforcing sight word recognition.

Read it, Trace it, Paste it pages..  This week we used the bingo markers, which made it lots of FUN!

Once again Audrey worked on her CVC boxes.  We did not use the tiles even though I included them in the PDF.  She really likes to sound out the letters and write them in the boxes.

The Word Family Sort is always fun.  This week we worked with TRAINS!!  I must say, Sophia (21 months) was completely intrigued!!  Audrey said that this was her favorite activity:)

We used the word slides and then Audrey wrote down the new words she created...

The CVC picture match proved to be a neat opportunity to expand her vocabulary.  For example, some of the printables identify the word tap as tap dancing.  However, in this activity the word tap refers to a faucet or spicket.  

Two new word family flowers were added to our garden:)

Ready2Read Questions

I have received a lot of emails regarding the  Ready2Read program and I wanted to take the time to answer some of your questions.

What is the Ready2Read program?
An explanation of the program can be found {HERE} on the information page.

Where can I find all of the posts for the Ready2Read program?
The pink Ready2Read tab at the top navigation will provide you a link to each post.

Can I get the units early, before you release them?
The scope and sequence for each unit is complete, but not assembled.  Therefore, I cannot release the units earlier than when I release them on the blog.  I typically try to release a unit a week, usually on Friday.  However, life does get in the way sometimes and I am not always able to release on schedule.   Audrey had a birthday one week and another week she was sick.  Hopefully the remainder of the units will be on time:)

When will you be releasing Level 2 for the Ready2Read program?
This part of the program is currently being worked on and I am hoping to release the program in the Fall.

I noticed a mistake in one of the units.
So sorry about the minor mistakes in one or two of the units.  I do try to be careful and Audrey usually corrects me as she does the program at home.  As for now, I can not spend the time to fix the minor mistake and reassemble the large PDF.  Hopefully in the future I can:)

Again, thank you for your kind comments and encouraging emails!  I have put several hours into each unit and I LOVE hearing how your child is progressing!!  I know that several Kindergarten teachers will be using this program as part of next year's class instruction.  That makes me so happy!!  We have experienced enormous success with the Ready2Read program at the Moffatt household, so I know (by experience) that the program works:)  It is my hope that you will be blessed too!

Happy 4th Birthday Audrey!!

There was not a lot of learning going on at our home this week, because this little honey had a 4th birthday!  We tried to crank out Unit 5 for the Ready2Read, but with no success!  Audrey was just too excited!!

We love you more than words could ever express!  You are such a joy, such a sweet little honey!  We are so thankful that you are our little girl!!  You light up our life Audrey!  You are a miracle, a blessing from the Lord!

Toddler 1,2,3 Bingo Mat Printable

I decided to introduce Sophia to some basic counting (1, 2, 3's) since she has shown some interest.  I made these 1, 2, 3 Bingo Mats so she can work on matching the correct number and color.  I was AMAZED at how well she did with this printable!  With no help at all, she matched the correct numbers.

*NOTE: You may want to print this on best draft so that the orange and red are easily identified.

Directions:  Print the Toddler Bingo mat {HERE}
                    Laminate for durability
                    Cut out the second page and match pieces to the first page.
                  ** The goal is to match the correct number and color.

Since I didn't have a flannel board, we used magnets on the dishwasher! 

  

Audrey used the pocket chart strips to find the words on the song sheet, which was a great opportunity for word-to-word recognition.

We extended the lesson by making ginger bread cookies with playdoh and counting/ subtracting ginger cookies!
