Ready2Read Level 1: Unit 2

This week we worked on Unit 2 in our Ready2Read Program!  If you are not familiar with the Ready2Read program, check out the information page {HERE}.

*Note: As of 11/7/2012, Level 1 has been completely reworked and revised.  Here is the NEW and IMPROVED version!  This blogpost will be a bit different from the upgraded printables, but contains the same content.

Sight Words: you, can, look, up, is
Word Families: ig, ip
Theme: Word Family Garden

I introduced the lesson with our 5 new sight word color-by-number flashcards...

We sorted our sight words....

Then we sang our sight word song to the tune of B-I-N-G-O...
The printable song sheet is in the Unit 1 download.  New words will be available in each new unit.

Audrey colored 5 new sight words for her sight word caterpillar...

WOW!  Look at it grow!!  You could ask your child to read a specific color word to practice.  For example, "Can you read all of the red and blue words?"  This helps mix it up a bit.

Later on in the week I actually decided to tape the sight word caterpillar down on our wall since it continues to grow!

Traced our sight words...

We decorated our sight words, which was a HUGE hit again!  We raided the pantry for our cake decorations once again...so much fun!  What will you find in your pantry?

Colored our word family coloring page...

We PAINTED our Read it, Trace it, Past it pages!  Audrey really enjoyed this part and wanted to several in one day.

Colored our color-by-sight word coloring page...

We worked with our word picture cards...

We even played memory with the -ip and -ig sets:)

We decoded our sight words.   This was a BIG hit again and since they are in sheet protectors, we were able to do them several times:)

Audrey was really excited about her word sort since it involved ice cream!!!  (with a cherry on top:)
Audrey practiced her CVC word and we up-leveled it by writing the letters in the boxes.
Note: Make sure to erase soon after so it comes off easily:)

Audrey cut out, read and worked in both word family minibooks...

Practiced with our -ip and -ig family word slides...

Ready2Read Level 1: Unit 1

I am THRILLED to finally be able to launch the Ready2Read program!  This has taken me a long time to put together and test.  It is finally here and I am EXCITED!

Head on over to the Information Page to learn more about the Ready2Read program!

*Note: As of 11/7/2012, Level 1 has been completely reworked and revised.  Here is the NEW and IMPROVED version!  This blogpost will be a bit different from the upgraded printables, but contains the same content.  Lesson plans are included!

Sight Words: I, see, the, and, a
Word Families: -at, -an
Theme: Word Family Garden

We started off with our color by number flashcards.
Laminated, cut out and practiced...

We made a new sight word caterpillar.  I like this one better than my original, because Audrey has ownership in the what she learns.  Not a Mommy made project, but an Audrey made project:)
Sight Word Caterpillar colored, laminated and learned!!

We sang our sight words to the tune of B-I-N-G-O.  We used a cookie sheet and magnets on the back of the words. Audrey really enjoyed putting up the words and Sophia loved singing along!

I called these cherrio mats, but they turned into bean and cake decorating mats!  This was one of Audrey's favorites and it was so much FUN!!

What a FUN way to learn sight words!!  The only problem I had was trying to keep her from eating all of the cake decorations;)
We have 5 Read it, Trace it, Paste it sheets that work ONLY with the 5 new sight words and the 2 new word families learned this week.

Audrey read her -an and -at family minibooks.

Coloring her color by word family apple tree...

We starting "planting" our word family garden.  I laminated some green construction paper, roughly cut it up and made "grass."

Sorting the -an and -at family apples...

Circling the correct CVC word...

Crack the sight word code page.  Audrey really enjoyed this activity!  At first she wasn't sure how to do it, but she caught on quickly and didn't want any help from me!

Matching the correct CVC (-at and -an family words) to the correct picture.

Working with -at and -an family word slides

CVC Boxes-build a word to match the picture.
Build the word and paste the letters into the boxes.  You can also write the letters in the boxes with a dry erase maker if you laminate the pictures.
