Big IQ Review

Educational online programs are becoming an added feature with both homeschoolers and classroom teachers.  Educators and parents are looking for ways to motivate students, increase learning and reinforce core concepts.  Big IQ  Kids is an online program that does just that!

What is Big IQ Kids?
Big IQ Kids is an online K-8 program that covers spelling, vocabulary, math and U.S. Geography.  They even have a SAT vocabulary test prep section and ebooks made by kids for kids!  This program can be incorporated in the classroom, homeschooling environment and used for after school reinforcement.  Teachers can also set up their classroom for FREE!

How Does it Work?
When student log into the program, they are given a lesson from each of the four subjects.  After completing a lesson, students are able to earn coins that they can cash in for games.

This part of the program focuses on teaching and reinforcing basic math skills.  Students cannot advance to the next level until they are proficient in a specific area.

The spelling program comes with a set of pre-made word lists, but can be changed by the parent to meet the needs of their current curriculum.  The spelling program encompasses a 5 step model:
1) Introduce the Lesson
2) Spelling Bee or Robot Games
3) Word Scramble Spelling Game or Spelling Bee
4) Pop Quiz
5) Spelling Test

The Geography section of the program is designed to teach the location of the 50 states, names of the capitals, abbreviations of the states, spelling, nicknames and more!

How Much Does it Cost?
This online program has FREE and Premium accounts, which you can compare {HERE}.
Although this program is FREE, there are advantages to purchasing the Premium memberships.  Here is a chart that shows the differences for the FREE vs Premium U.S. States package:

  • Spelling - $7.99/month or $39.99/year
  • Math - $9.99/month or $49.99/year
  • US States - $39.99/yeaar
  • Vocabulary - $9.99/month or $59.99/year
  • All four programs - $19.99/month or $99.99/year

What do we think?
Audrey enjoys the computer and Big IQ is no exception!  The program is user friendly and the lessons are fun.  Many of the games are a little too advanced for Audrey, but she enjoys trying to play.   We have been working on the geography section and learning the location of our states.  She has also practiced with the long/short vowels.  I think that this program is a fun way for kids to reinforce basic skills and educational concepts.

Technology is such an amazing draw to kids these days. I can always get my kiddos to work on a skill if it is on the computer. Thanks for posting about Big IQ Review. We have been using this summer to practice spelling and vocabulary but it is always good to have more options:)
